Another Excuse, Another Tax.
The Times reports here on a government report calling for a tax on parking on out of town shopping centres. Reporting the reason as "to save traditional high streets from terminal decline and to protect the environment".
Is it really too much to ask for, to have a little bit of independent comment and scutiny? There is a far more likely alternative view staring the reporter in the face, but he cannot seem to grasp it. The government commission is looking for more money, for another excuse to impose another tax on the individual.
Let us assume the basis of the report is true (by no means certain), the high street faces terminal decline because of free parking at out of town shopping centres. Well there's an obvious answer, make all council owned car parks free and bring back on street parking. This would attract the motorist back into town and breathe new life into these town centres in terminal decline.
Unsurprisingly this isn't mentioned in the "story" and I doubt it appears in the report; certainly not as a recommendation. Just who do they think is fooled by all this government guff?
We are governed by a bunch of greedy, grubby, grabbers who take any opportunity to seize our money; which is then at best used to no effect and at worst to provide further oppressions.
Private car parks are PRIVATE PROPERTY, if the owners of that property choose to allow people to park for free there, then IT'S NONE OF YOUR BUISINESS.
GREEDY, GRUBBY, GRABBY GOVERNMENT KEEP OUT!
