Mentioned In Dispatches Captain Edmund Carlisle (Retired)
The Times reports on this story, but The Englishman has also picked it up, as his version provides personal ebellishment from similar situations he's been in, I'm linking to his version here (The Times version can be seen there anyway).
From the report you will discover Captain Carlisle (Retired) was attempting to rescue his property from a fire and was forbidden to do so by the police.
Despite this he attempted to continue and was (it would appear) promptly arrested "for his own safety".
He has now won the right to sue the police.
I echo The Englishman's comment of: "I hope he wins".
When faced with this type of bureaucracy, it is important to stand up to it (legally) as best you can. Each time someone stands up for their rights, it makes it slightly less likely that those rights will be challenged in the future.
Thank you Captain Carlisle.
