Swamped
Thankfully, it looks like the attempt to close down Drax power station by Swampy & Co is going to fail.
There have been some reports on the local radio station, and it never ceases to amaze me the rubbish that some people spout (me excluded as naturally I'm not amazed by the rubbish I spout). One (male) choirboy was prattling on about being a parent and being pushed to the ground while taking "a walk in the countryside" (presumably by the police, but did not say this); well excuse me, but I can't see a correlation, so if you want to close down a power station and you're a parent, what? The police shouldn't try and stop you? What a load of guff.
Why not tell it as it is? "We don't like the power station, we thought we'd come and close it by force. In the process I got pushed to the ground, but I think we'll lay off for a while."
Another one was going on about legitimate protest, that's all very well and good, but although in this case it's a protest, is it legitimate? Do you have permission from the land owner for use of the field? Is it legitimate to want to close down a power station that isn't your legal property, possibly causing a problem to a large section of the country? (It generates 7% of Britian's (not just England's) electricity).
So it isn't really a legitimate protest at all.
I don't know if Nottinghamshire have sent their police horses (North Yorkshire don't have any), you know the ones you can advertise on, but it would have been great to have taken out some advertising in the name of Powergen or some other energy company with a strapline like "Feel the Force". Oh well nothing like a bit of humour to diffuse a situation.
