A tale of two trespasses
We have a report here in the Gaurdian (hat tip to Choice Cuts) that shows some police taking action against a group of ravers who had decided to take over a field for their rave.
Comapre that with this report from my local "news"paper about Swampy and friends who have appropriated a field for their use and are threatening to close down a local power station that apparently supplies some 7% of Britain's electricity.
I quote from a councillor having to deal with Swampy: "There is surprise in the village that these intruders have been allowed to take water from the public supply, let alone be allowed to obstruct the main road into Barlow in this manner." Perhaps we should be giving Swampy gifts while we're at, after all they're doing no harm unlike those nasty ravers.
In any event both things are trespass so should be dealt with in the same manner, and whilst I have no objection to a robust response to enforce private property rights, the fact is whatever response is chosen needs to be consistent.
Yet again we are seeing the hallmark of ZaNuLabour where a chosen group, here Swampy and friends are free to do as they like, but a non chosen group, attempting the same action finds itself of the receiving end of physical attack.
