Time for tax cuts, time for tax cuts ...
Following on from my post yesterday, and the thought that I'd find a million pounds which could be cut from public expenditure within a week, the Telegraph today didn't disappoint.
Here you can read about how "Spending on spin has trebled under Blair". Apparently: "John Prescott, the Deputy Prime Minister, has three press officers, despite no longer having a department". Although in his case he has a lot to answer for.
In terms of figures: "advertising and marketing budget has soared from £111 million in 1997 to £322 million last year". Remember that's more than a million pounds for each working day, a million pounds of our money wasted on self-serving government self-publicity. This money could be far better spent by the taxpayer on almost anything, including booze and fags, but at least the taxpayer would have the freedom to decide how their money was being spent.
I'll bet if Blair and Prescott had to pay for their own media circus, out of their own pockets it wouldn't cost anything like this.
