More Blair saga
The Times reports here on the latest instalment of the boring Blair saga - which looks like it will run and run.
In any event now it would appear that even his MPs are getting bored with it and want a definite date setting from Blair's own lips.
"... MPs were demanding last night that Mr Blair say so himself in order to bow out with dignity."
Of course this isn't really their concern, they want Blair to set a date and they naively think he'll be committed to it.
If Blair names a date one of two things will happen, either he will be sidelined as all the contenders jostle for the crown and Blair's last year/months in office will be even more meaningless. Alternatively everything will quieten down, in which case Blair won't go on the nominated day then unless more pressure is put upon him, but as interest will have fizzled out, or they'll be an event to deal with or some other excuse for Blair to stay I don't think he'd go then at all. Really if these MPs want rid of him they going to have to go for the jugular and get him to resign now.
If enough of them get together then they can probably do it, but I can't see it happening myself, Blair will always be able to buy off enough of them with platitudes and other hints at when he might go so as to avoid him being ousted. They haven't the stomach for the task.
